Gary Goes Off On KHMH
posted (March 15, 2018)

If you live in Belize City, you may know one of our more colourful characters Gareth Gill, better know as "Gary". Up until last year, he was heavily involved the September carnival, as the leader of one of the masquerade bands. But, while that's his passion, he actual job, up until last year, was a member of the kitchen at the KHMH who provided food for patients and the hospital staff.

He was terminated over a year ago, for disciplinary issues. Gill disagrees with the nature of the termination, but he is more concerned  because he claims that he has not been paid severance benefits he says he deserves. He came to us today saying that for over a year now, he has been frustrated in his attempts to get what he is due, and he is asking to  appear on the evening news as a sort of last resort.

He and his friend spoke with us today about his complaint:

Aloma Ashon - Gary's Friend
"Today I was in the beauty salon and I said Gary how comes you're not at work. Gary said to me he's not working, why you not working, he said they fired him for a year. So I said you didn't get money or anything? He said to me no, so I said why you're not concerned, why don't you report it. He said he went to several places and reported and nobody is interested. So I said Gary let's go to the media, you get more attention so that you can report it."

Gareth "Gary" Gill - Says KHMH Hasn't Paid Him
"I was at KHMH going for 11 years. We prepared food for patient and staff. I'm not really worried about the firing it's just that I was there and they gave me letter saying they have this benefit for me and this that and up to this day they did not give me my money. Nothing they haven't given me, nearly a whole year this year make that I have been to all different places, I have complained, I have people who I go to. They are telling me take it to court, take it court, take it court, I don't know what to do. The HR, she told me that she already signed the letter, she already signed whatever documents, she already calculated the amount that I'm supposed to get and it's only the CEO is supposed to sign off in order to make I get what I'm supposed to get. Up to today's day I have not received a call, I have not received a letter in black and white stating that you know you will get your money on this given date, if you know you won't get your money. None of them give me an update about my money and it has been 1 year now, 1 single year complete. All I want is my money because I believe even if it's a dollar, I want it. I'm up and down, up and down and every day I feel bad because I don't have a job."

So, while Gary says that he's been employed at KHMH for over 10 years, we understand that he doesn't have the number of years of service he claims he has. Thus, he may not be qualified for those benefits. We intend to follow up with KHMH tomorrow.
