Honduran Cabbie Killed In OW, Uncle Says Jealousy Again
posted (March 19, 2018)
And the weekend's sixth and final murder happened last night in the Orange Walk District.

25 year-old Elmer Alexi Palma Arzu, a Honduran taxi driver, was found dead on the Chan Pine Ridge Road at around 9:00. Police discovered his body inside his taxi - with a shot to the head.

Palma Arzu moved to Belize only 12 months ago, to start his own taxi business.

Today, Police told us more:

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Some time after 9pm, Orange Walk police visited Chan Pine Ridge road where they observed a while Geo Prizm car with license plate D-0130 parked on the left hand side of the road, facing a north to south direction when traveling from Orange Walk to Chan Pine Ridge road. Upon inspecting the vehicle at the back seat they observed the motionless body of a male person who was identify as Elmer Alex Palma, 27 years old Honduran national or 8 San Martin, Orange Walk District. He had an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Police at the scene recovered one expended shell and what we understand that he was last seen alive sometime after 3pm somewhere in Orange Walk until his body was found."

Police flatly rejected the speculation that he had any involvement in any illicit drug activity or plane landings.

Our colleagues from CTV3 News also spoke with Palma Arzu's uncle in Orange Walk, while he and his other taxi colleagues were preparing a burial site. He said that he has heard rumors that the young man have been killed over a female:

Abel Francisco Murrillo - Uncle of the Deceased
"I have heard rumors, but I'm not sure if it's true that he was with a girl, and that the girl had a next boy, who was jealous. They had complications between the boy and the girl. I heard rumors that this can be a motive why this bad thing happened to my nephew."

His uncle has decided to bury him here in Belize because although the family back in Honduras would have preferred that he be sent back home, there were too many logistics involved to make the transfer.
