No Arrests in Weekend Murders, But Cops Say One Of Their Own Falsely Blamed
posted (March 20, 2018)
Tonight there are no major updates and no arrests in any of the six weekend murders, 5 in Belize City, and 1 in Orange Walk.

As we've reported Victor Gibbs, Kendis Flowers, Delcia Blanco, Theresita Flowers, and Denroy Alvarez were all killed in 26 murderous hours between Friday and Saturday night in the city.

And then, Elmer Alexi Palma was killed in Orange Walk on Sunday night.

Like we said, there have been no arrests for any of these killings, but there is some news about the Kendis Flowers murder.

As you heard last night, Kendis's family blames the police for his death - they say the GSU killed him, and put a gun in his hand to frame him. Now, the allegation - widely circulated on Facebook - has gone so far as to accuse a GSU Sargeant by name of killing Kendis Flowers.

Well, the police sent out a statement today saying, quote, "Since the murder of, Kendis Flowers…The Belize Police Department has been made aware of a series of accusations and threats of death against Sgt Walton Banner, and his family. The department view these threats seriously and we want to assure the general public that this officer has been out of the country on vacation leave during the time of (the) Flowers murder." End quote,

Police say they expect to lay charges very soon, and they add, quote, "We therefore call on those persons concerned to cease and desist from making those accusations and threats. Failure to do so will result in appropriate legal action." End quote.

The Sargeant's attorney also sent a letter saying he has been out of the country since March 13th.

And while that should quell that chatter, there's not much consoling the family which has lost a loved one. However, we understand that police Deputy Commissioner Chester Williams went to visit Kendis Flowers parents today to try and allay their concerns.
