Hon. Kareem: A “Barrow-gant” Budget
posted (March 23, 2018)
Caribbean Shores Rep. Kareem Musa also weighed in on the budget calling it a "lame duck farewell budget" among many other things. Here's how he put it:

Hon. Kareem Musa, Caribbean Shores Area Rep.
"Madam Speaker, I begin by declaring this a "Barrow-gant" budget during a state of emergency. "Barrow-gant" because it lacks creativity and imagination. It lacks energy. It is a budget in a coma. A lifeless body of fancy words that do not in any way reflect the true Belizean reality of struggle and hardship. A lazy excuse of a budget that was prepared without any effort or vision, no consultation with private sector partners like the Belize Chamber of Commerce. No engagement with social partners like the teachers union and other community groups. Sure signs that this is a lame duck farewell budget."

"This is a cut and paste budget. A whole bunch of numbers. Big, big numbers, cut and pasted from years gone of failed leadership with the usual trimmings of blaming past administrations for our fail-state status. The Prime Minister and his UDP administration have plunged Belize like the Titanic on the ocean floor so deep that it will take generations to resurface. I believe it was the brother of the member of Pickstock, a former UDP politician himself who predicted it best when he said in 2011 "we are in trouble" the captain will take the ship on the reef. It is inevitable."

"The priorities of this administration are just so messed up. Where are all the scholarships that they should be finding for our deserving youth? Where are all the investments that they should be attracting to Belize? Have we ever gotten an explanation of a report on what we are getting for 15 million dollars on foreign travel and cocktail parties? It is time for these ambassadors to take a pay cut, or better yet, it is time for them to pack up and come home to share in the struggle of normal Belizeans."
