High Powered Pistol Recovered
posted (March 23, 2018)
Last night police searched 24-year-old Ignatius Williams on Mosul Street and found that he was packing a high powered pistol.

At around 10:45, they were on mobile patrol when they saw Williams riding a bicycle. They followed him, and as soon as he spotted them, he sped up and tried to escape.

The chase went on to Mosul Street, where the officers saw Williams throw away an object. They caught up to him, escorted him back to the area, and found a .45 pistol with 6 live rounds of ammunition.

Williams was arrested and charged with keeping a prohibited firearm, and keeping prohibited ammunition. He was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Chief Magistrate remanded him to the Belize Central Prison, and he will be brought back to court on May 10, for an adjournment of the case.

Like we said it's a very powerful weapon, and the new southside OC is very glad it's off the street. In a text message to the media, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett says, quote, "As a result of this find we have prevented a murder. To those officers I say congrats and all of them will be rewarded at a ceremony sometime next week. This is the kind of policing that I encourage. Thanks to the public also for cooperating."
