BEL Hand In Hand With Needy Mother For New House
posted (March 28, 2018)
Today a family of three in Burrel Boom received an early Easter present. Hand in Hand ministries and BEL worked together to give Pamela Reyes a brand new furnished home. We caught up with the generous donors and the happy recipient today.

Sahar Vasquez reporting
Last year Pamela Reyes realized that living in her small, confined home was far from ideal for her two daughters, so with nothing to lose she went into Hand in Hand Ministries to inquire about a home.

Bernard Panton, Hand in Hand Ministries
"Pam had the gall and the guts to come in herself and inquire. She saw the requirements and put herself towards that. She came in and did what she had to do and now this is the result."

A brand new house. Today Reyes was on cloud nine trying to wrap her head around the miracle in front of her.

Pamela Reyes, Recipient of House
"It is a very overwhelming feeling. I actually still don't believe I actually own it."

Hand in Hand and B.E.L made her dreams achievable by putting in time, money and sweat equity to make sure she got just what she wanted and needed - with a headstart on electrification.

Vonetta Burrell, BEL Manager of Public Relations
"A part of our contribution and commitment to Hand In Hand is to provide service entrances. They are needed to make sure that you can connect safely to BELs supply."

Reyes expected to walk into an empty home that was in need of furniture but instead she walked into a furnished one thanks to her donors.

Pamela Reyes, Recipient of House
"Everything inside is actually donated by B.E.L. Like I said before they did more than I really expected. When I came home and saw all these things, I was like wow."

The process did not happen overnight. Even though Reyes had the help she still had to work hard for her dream but it was all worth it - because of what it now gives to her girls.

Pamela Reyes
"My oldest daughter had lived with my mom for a while because my family did not live here."

"I wanted my two kids to live together that is why I pushed more for this house and it feels good to be having both of them under one roof so they can bond, we can live as a happy family, and push more for what we want together in our life."

The approximate value of BELs donation is $22,000. This is the 347th house Hand in Hand has constructed since the inauguration of the "Building for Change" program seven years ago.
