Family Says Child Almost Kidnapped In Chetumal Park
posted (April 3, 2018)
This Easter weekend Chetumal was flooded with Belizeans. Lins P. Bailey, her six-year-old daughter Empress, and her mother were among the many families that were there. The trio was having a blast together until something completely unexpected happened to them.

Their precious little Empress was almost abducted by a stranger while they were at the park on Sunday. Thankfully she managed to escape but the incident has left the family especially Empress shaken up. However, this did not deter the family from sharing their scary experience. They told Sahar Vasquez that they want everyone to know so that they can be on guard.

As a tradition, this Easter Weekend Lins Bailey, her daughter, and mother all went to Chetumal to make precious memories together. The good times, fun and laughter kept rolling in until Sunday night.

After a full day at the park enjoying Chetumal Easter Sunday festivities the family was getting ready to leave but little Empress was not ready to go.

"I told my mom that I wanted to play the games but she said no so I let go her hand so I could go and watch the games. I had my head sideways and a lady just came from behind."

Empress innocently thought like any stranger the lady would just walk past her but that was not the case.

"I thought she would pass me but she dragged me. She was about to walk away with me so I pushed her away. I called my mom and ran to her and held her tight."

Her mom was puzzled when her usually carefree daughter latched onto her with a world of fear in her big eyes.

"About a minute later she came back running to me and grabbed me. I asked her what happened. She said a lady was trying to take me."

"The lady approached us and she started to touch Empress's hair and she was speaking in Spanish saying "Bonita". I watched the lady but at that time I went blank. When the lady left Empress told me "Mom she is the one that tried to take me."

The family was able to find the lady a few minutes later. With a mortified Empress hiding in the back they approached her but that did not phase her in the least bit.

"My mom the approached her and said if you mess with my granddaughter again I will hurt you and the lady laughed so we went home."

As a mother, Bailey is in shambles. Her only daughter was almost taken from her in less than five minutes.

"If she was taken I know I would not see her again. This is my only child. I am hurt and angry and I do not want to go back to Chetumal."

At the end of the day, Ariola's quick thinking and bravery saved her and the 6-year-old says that is all thanks to her grandma who taught her an invaluable lesson.

"Where did you learn to do what you did to that woman? Who told you that?"

Empress Ariola, Almost Kidnapped
"My granny."

Sahar Vasquez
"What did she tell you?"

Empress Ariola, Almost Kidnapped
"To never make a stranger take me and if they do fight them."

Bailey said that she did report the incident to the authorities in Chetumal and they are currently seeking the man and the woman involved.
