Cops Say What Simon Said Is Bogus
posted (April 10, 2018)
Last night on the news you saw the picture of Punta Gorda resident Leray Simon - who had a hideous black eye after he claims police beat him up.

Well, there are two sides to every story, and tonight we have the police side. Simon said he was socializing after winning a football game, but police say he had in fact kidnapped his son from his baby's mother - who happens to be a WPC.

She called police to arrest him at her home - where he was also accused of damaging her cell phone.

Police took him into custody and claim that when they got to the station - he started acting unruly - grabbing a police officer Ramirez and allegedly causing a laceration on his hand.

Police say he fell to the ground during the struggle and that's when he injured his face. Now, you might want to take that one with a grain of salt, but the police officer went to the hospital at the same time as Simon and got a medico legal form classifying his injury as harm.

And that's the other part of the story. Simon says that police refused to give him a medico legal form - but today police circulated a medico legal form showing that he had been to the hospital at 2:02 am where his injury was classified as harm. The cops also sent out a consent form saying he refused treatment - but that, very notably, is unsigned.

Two very conflicted accounts, but the bad news for Simon is that tonight he is wanted for the assault of a police officer, for causing that laceration to officer Ramirez's thumb.

The Southern Regional commander, Senior Superintendent Alford Grinage says that a police investigators form Independence will also be brought in to investigate the claim that Simon was brutalized.
