9 Months For Killing High Schooler By Accident
posted (April 10, 2018)
It made huge news in 2010 when 17 year old Shenaele Reyes was killed when a friend accidentally fired a sawed off shot gun and killed her.

Twenty-five year old Ibrahim Smith, who was charged with manslaughter but had pleaded guilty to manslaughter by negligence was given a sentence of 9 months today by Justice Colin Williams. That amounted to time served because he was remanded for 9 months before he was released on bail.

But although Smith's sentence was time served he was not freed because he is serving sentences of 5 years and 2 years for convictions of kept prohibited firearm and handling stolen goods. The prohibited firearm, a sawed-off shotgun, was the weapon that shot and killed Reyes. The gun was also stolen. Smith was represented in court by attorney Leeroy Banner. Crown Counsel Kileru Awich represented the Crown.
