Family Expected Murder Victim Home Today
posted (April 13, 2018)
Both men are residents of Ladyville, and today, we went there to try to speak with their families..

All the members of the Seawell Family who we got in touch with declined to give any comments, but the Escalante family was a bit more forthcoming.

We spoke with Gabriel Escalante's mother-in-law, and she told us that the last conversation that he had with her daughter was that his trip to "Caye Largo" was coming to an end, and that he would be back home by today.

But, instead, her family woke up this morning to the terrible news that he had been murdered before he could leave the island:

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"He was here and Tuesday, he went out, he came and he told my daughter he wants some conch flitters, she went to make conch flitters. He took the conch flitters he was eating a couple of it and came to sit down by the front door with the bag from the place out there and his boss came and picked him up in an orange pickup and that's how he went. I saw him right at my door. He said "I'm going out mom" I said yes. He picked up his bag and went."

Reporter
"What was he doing out on the fishing camp area?"

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"Sometimes they camp out there, they mostly camp out there sometimes when he goes and come in just like that. That's how they do it."

Reporter
"You were telling us that he is helping his boss to build something out there at this current moment?"

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"He said his boss got a building that they are trying to finish and he does to help."

Reporter
"When was he expected to be returning home?"

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"That's today."

Reporter
"What was the last conversation his common law wife, and your daughter?"

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"Last night, he talked long about 9 o' clock on the phone. He said he is coming in today with some fish he caught."

Reporter
"Unfortunately, those didn't reach."

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"No and early this morning about 6 o' clock when they called us and told us that he died."

Reporter
"Your daughter must be stressed out and in pain due to his murder."

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"Yes, because my daughter is right there, I know she can't take it so I send my next daughter along with her to keep up with her, so I can stay with the kids because they were crying too so I said I could stay with them and try hold them up."

Reporter
"What kind of conversations did you two have has son in law to mother in law?"

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"Well, we have little ups and downs but that happened a long time ago but since he came back. sometimes he brings my tea. We lived like family."

"So, you yourself is also mourning his loss."

Marie Clarke - Mother-in-Law
"I have to because its somebody I was already used to."

Reporter
"So, do you or the family members know anything as to what happened, how he was killed, why he might have been killed, anything like that?"
