Why Is Faber Not PM?
posted (April 17, 2018)
As we told you last night, Prime Minister Dean Barrow is out of the country and has again appointed a juniour member of Cabinet to preside as acting prime minister. For the second time in a week, Minister of Labour and Local Government Hugo Patt is Prime Minister. But Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber was in country and on the job today. So why didn't he get the nod - which should be automatic in all circumstances? Faber explained it today, saying there's no trouble between him and the PM:

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Not past over at all. I have been out of the country. I left just about I think in Holy Thursday before the Easter break. I have spent a week with my boys who are on spring break in the United States and subsequent to that, I was on official business in the Dominican Republic attending a SICA meeting which is the meeting of ministers of education and culture. After I concluded the meetings there I was invited by the Vice President of the Dominican Republic to sit in a two-day session where I represented Belize along with other vice presidents of the Central American region, the vice presidents of Honduras and Panama, the DR. We were at a meeting together where I participated in a round table discussion for a wider audience for social action in our respective communities. I have been out, that is simply the case. I returned to the country yesterday and I will leave again tomorrow because I am going on an official visit to South Korea, not North Korea, South Korea, where I will spend a few days as a guest of the South Korean government. So that is the only reason I have not been asked by the prime minister, as far as I know, to be acting in his absence."

Faber will be leaving the country tomorrow to go on an official visit to South Korea.
