Another Nolle Pros, Another Alleged Killer Walks Free
posted (April 19, 2018)

Exactly 7 years ago in April of 2011 when Fei Lan Wu was murdered in a pair of weekend killings  - both targeting female shopkeepers - it caused an uproar in the Chinese community - who staged an angry and defiant protest in the city streets.

Well, now, the men accused of both killings have gone free.  In 2016, Jordan Cayetano, charged with the murder of Yan Ying Chen, walked free after a "nolle pros" motion.

Today, there was another “nolle pros” - this time for 28 year old Kareem Francis, the alleged killer of Fei Lan Wu - who is now a free man tonight after 7 years on remand.  Crown Counsel Killeru Awich entered the motion before justice Colin Williams because the main witness cannot be located.

Wu was the mother of two and the owner of Yankee Snack Shop on Faber’s Road.   She was killed with a shotgun on a Saturday afternoon, an hour after Yan Ying Chen was killed on King Street.

Francis was represented by attorney Oscar Selgado. This is the second time he has been freed of a murder charge.  In 2010, a jury of 8 men and 4 women found him not guilty of the murder of 15 year old Jomo Lamb. Also in that case, the main witness did not appear in court to testify.
