2 days ago, we told you about the Belizean fisherman, Iginio Canto Bacab, who was intercepted by the Guatemalan Navy along with 2 Guatemalans trying to smuggle out-of-season lobster into Guatemala.
As we told you, he is facing criminal charges in Livingston, Guatemala, and, tonight, best information suggests that he remains in the custody of the Guatemalan authorities. We've been trying to get information about the latest developments in his case, and sources tell us that he was supposed to have had a court hearing today. We could not find out the result of that at newstime.
As we told you, he and 2 Guatemalans were busted by the Guatemalan navy in the southern waters off the coast of Toledo. When the Guatemalan navy officers searched their vessel, they found large quantities of lobster inside coolers. The lobster season is presently closed for all Central American countries.
