From this afternoon's murder, we turn now to another killing on the city's southside. 25 year-old Albert Ervin Johnson, who's originally from Punta Gorda Town, was shot and killed on Rectory Lane in Belize City, in the Southern Foreshore area.
At this time, it is unclear what happened, but on Friday night at around 11 o'clock, the cops found him lying on the corner of the street. Someone shot him twice in the head, and left him to die right where he collapsed.
Today, at their bi-weekly press conference, the police told us that they believe he was ambushed by 3 men. Here's what they had to say about his murder:

"On the 20th of April sometime around 11 pm police responded to a shooting on Rectory Lane, Belize City. Upon arrival police discovered the motionless body of a male person lying on the street. He was identified to be that of Albert Ervin Johnson, a 25 year old resident of Punta Gorda. An examination of the body determined that he was shot twice, one to the forehead and one to the back of the head. From what police have gathered so far, Mr. Johnson was walking on Rectory Lane on the direction of Regent Street when he was approached by three male persons, one of whom pulled out a firearm and fired shots in his direction causing the fatal injuries. Several persons have been detained for that investigation and the matter is still under investigation. Nobody has been charged yet."

"Well, the investigation is ongoing and I'm sure the investigators are trying to establish that. However, I don't have any details with regard to that at this point."

"Do police have any details as to this gentleman's life, where he was employed, anything of that sort?"

"I know that he was living here, however, I have no information with regard to what was the circumstances of him being here."
7News has confirmed that Marlon Everett known as Yankee from the West Canal area and a known gang affiliate has been charged for this murder - and other persons are expected to be charged by the end of the night.
Persons from PG told us today that Johnson is originally from that southern town, and it was always suspected that he was struggling with mental illness.
We're told that he lived homeless in PG, and there were residents who tried to look after him, but he kept making poor choices with the help he was given.
He moved to Belize City, and that's where he may have connected with his relatives. One acquaintance of his is worried he may have been lured into some type of underworld activity which ended up getting him killed.
