OW Man Crashed Into Moving House, Died
posted (April 23, 2018)
Family members and friends of 26 year-old Daniel Ian Urbina, a resident of Palmar Village, Orange Walk, are getting ready to lay him to rest after he died in a traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway over the weekend.

It happened some time before 3 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 at mile 41. Urbina was driving a Toyota Hilux to Orange Walk when he slammed into a wooden house which was being carried on a GMC 10-wheeler truck heading in the opposite direction.

Today, police told us that they have since charged 25 year-old Ever Hosmel Uk, the Guinea Grass Villager who was transporting the house. They told us that from their investigations, Uk did not take the proper precautions to warn motorists that he was transporting this home on the highway:

Wilfredo Ferrufino - Inspector, CIB
"On the 21st of April sometime around 3 am, acting upon information received, Orange Police visited somewhere between miles 42 and 43 on the Northern Highway. There they observed a Toyota Hilux with an Orange Walk license plate with extensive damage to the driver's side of the vehicle. Inside the driver's side of that vehicle was the motionless body of Daniel Ian Urbina, a 26 year old student of Palmar Village, Orange Walk. Initial investigations from police is that the vehicle collided into another truck, a white GMC ten wheeler, which was carrying a house. It was travelling to Belize City and the vehicle in which Mr. Urbina was travelling was travelling to Orange Walk. His vehicle collided into the outer side of the building that was being transported and he sustained multiple head and body injuries and died on the scene. Since then police have arrested and charged the driver of the other vehicle, the ten wheeler, and that would be Mr. Ever Uk, a 25 year old driver of Guinea Grass Village. He was charged for the crime of causing death by careless conduct and driving a motorvehicle without due care and attention."

"You said that the investigation shows that it was the other driver who collided or crashed into this vehicle carrying the house or the structure, so then, why would this driver be charged?"

Wilfredo Ferrufino - Inspector, CIB
"I believe that the investigation has yielded that because of certain measures that had to be in place for that vehicle travelling with that building and those measures were not adhered to, therefore, putting the burden on the other driver."

Reporter
"That would be lighting and measures?"

Wilfredo Ferrufino - Inspector, CIB
"Exactly, there are several measures that had to be used when conveying these structures and I think persons who are dealing with these types of movements should be aware of that. I think there should have been adequate lighting on that structure, a lead vehicle should be in place so that they know that it is a large structure that is coming and they should be cautious when approaching the vehicle."

Sources in Orange Walk tell us that UK has already been arraigned in the Orange Walk Magistrate's Court, and he was offered bail of $6,000. He must return to court on June 12.

Reliable reports to 7News is that Urbina was traveling with another man who suffered minor injuries due to the accident.

Sources say that Urbina is the grandson of Rosendo "Chendo" Urbina, the retired politician.
