Sticks and Stones Will Get You Shot

A cop responded to stoning with gunfire.

It happened in Dangriga Town over the weekend, where a police officer is reporting that a man started throwing rocks at him.

The cops say that 23 year-old Jesse Lopez started stoning the officer, and because he refused to desist, the cop shot him in the leg.

The police spokesperson shared more details with the press today:

"On Saturday somewhere on Commerce Street, Dangriga Town, a police officer was on duty when he was approached by a male individual who began throwing missiles or rocks at him. Upon the individual attempting to throw more missiles at the officer, the officer drew his licensed weapon and fired a single shot at the individual causing an injury to the right leg. That individual has been identified to be Jessie Lopez a 25 year old laborer of Waguirali area of Dangriga town. We know that he is at the hospital receiving treatment, his injuries are not life threatening and that matter is under investigation by the professionals standard branch."

"Well, at this point it would be throwing missiles or aggravated assault, depending on the circumstances of the report."

As you heard, an internal investigation is being conducted by the Professional Standards Branch.
