Belizean Fisherman Imprisoned in Guatemala For Lobster
posted (April 24, 2018)
Last week, we told you about the Belizean fisherman, Iginio Canto Bacab, who was intercepted by the Guatemalan Navy. He was in the company of 2 Guatemalan nationals and the authorities there say that the trio were trying to smuggle out-of-season lobster into Guatemala.

Well, we've since learned that all 3 men were charged for being in possession of 216 pounds of whole lobster, 20 pounds of lobster tails, and 80 pounds of the queen conch, which are all out of season according to SICA fishing regulations. We're also informed that the boat they were caught in is licensed in Belize, with the plate number TOL-035.

Best information says that Bacab was fined for the illegal cache of fisheries products and his family is attempting to come up with the money to cover the fine, before he can return home.
