posted (April 24, 2018)
Last night, we told you about 50 year-old Gerardo Mendoza, the Orange Walk resident who is in a critical condition at the KHMH getting into some kind of a traffic accident. His family says that he was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver, but police believe that he fell out of the back of a pick-up truck.

The cops have released the official version which says that on Friday, April 20, at around 6:45 p.m., officers from Orange Walk Town responded to a traffic accident at the Guinea Grass Road junction with the Phillip Goldson Highway. That's where they found Mendoza suffering from severe head and bodily injuries.

Their investigation says that Mendoza fell off a green Nissan pick-up truck, which was traveling from the Orange Walk to Belize City. They say that the driver of this vehicle, from which he supposedly fell, is unknown at this time. Police reportedly have a witnesses who's given this acocunt.

But, as we told you, Mendoza's family doesn't believe that he fell off any vehicle. They say that at around 6:40 p.m., he was riding this bicycle to his job site as a watchman at the Lamanai river.

They think that he was hit from behind by a pickup truck and that the force of the impact threw him over the vehicle. They think that this is how this eyewitness became mistaken to believe that he fell out of the pickup. They've sent the media this photograph of Mendoza's bike which shows the back wheel wrecked.

He's currently hospitalized in a coma with a with a fractured skull, a broken foot, a broken hand, and 4 broken ribs. The Mendoza family tells us that the doctors are worried that his brain is starting to swell.

They want the driver of the vehicle to come forward and clear up the confusion.
