Alleged Killer Free On Nolle Pros
posted (April 24, 2018)
After spending 6 years in prison on remand, 28 year-old Allan Sommerville, a resident of Hattieville, was told today that he could go home. The DPP's Office has indicated that they no longer want to prosecute him at this time for the April 2012 murder of 32 year-old Eleno Requena.

As we reported, Requena was on the shoulder of the Cornel English Bridge in Hattieville at around 8:00 on the night of April 9, 2012. He had a 10 year-old boy on his back, and they were both walking home. That's when a man dressed in dark clothing came up close to Requena and shot him in the midsection. He died on the spot, and the 10 year-old boy was injured to the left foot.

Less than 3 weeks later, Sommerville was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, grievous harm, and use of deadly means of harm. He waited on remand for his day in court which came today. Senior Crown Counsel Sheneiza Smith appeared before Justice Marilyn Williams and indicated to the court that the DPP's Office wished to enter a "nolle pros" which, means that the charges are being withdrawn at this time. The prosecution is free to charge him again if evidence emerges against him.

He left the court a free man for the first time in years - and this is what he had to say to court reporter Anita Nembhard:

Reporter
"Tell me something for the camera."

Allan Sommerville
"All I have to tell the camera to just praise God."
