Uno Robbery, Four Suspects, Tens of Thousands Gone
posted (April 26, 2018)

Earlier this week, we told you about Monday's armed robbery at the UNO Gas Station in San Ignacio Town.

It was caught on security camera, and cell phone by civilians standing outside the gas station. They saw the robber dashing off, but the police told us today that he was one of a team of 4 accomplices, and that they actually got away with a whopping $33,000 in cash and cheques.

Here's what the Head of the National Criminal Investigation's Branch had to say on this topic:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Monday 23rd April shortly before 11 AM police were called to the UNO gas station located on the Benque Veijo Road in San Ignacio Town where upon arrival it was reported to them that the gas station was approached by 4 male persons - 2 of whom entered whilst 2 remained outside. Those who entered the gas station then proceeded to rob the accountant and those inside the gas station of monies and cheques amounting to 33 thousand dollars. During the process one person was injured and the suspects then made good their escape. Police continue and intensive investigation into this matter."

We have since learned that police have 2 suspects who they intend to charge with robbery by tomorrow. 2 more suspects were caught in Belize City, as part of a joint operation by several police units. At this time, the investigators are trying to build a case against them.  The crime is believed to involve well known Belize City criminals.
