Your light bill is going up - but by less than the figure the power company was asking for. Back on April first, BEL asked the PUC for a 7.1% average increase in the mean electricity rate.
30 days later, the PUC has approved a 4.4% increase - basically meeting the utility halfway.
BEL had asked that the average rate go up from the current 36.9 cents per kilowatt hour to 39.5 cents for July 2018 to July 2019. The PUC
The PUC has reviewed their case and decided to approve a tariff of 38.62¢ per kilowatt-hour, up to June 30, 2020.
This is an initial decision and BEL can challenge it - and ask for the opinion of an independent expert.
