Four Shot in Front of Chinese Store
posted (May 3, 2018)
Tonight, specialized Police operational units have city's gang hotspots on a tight leash after a night of wild gun violence in the Eastern Division last night. Five people were shot in the city - and there was a brazen attempt on a police officer's life in Burrell Boom.

Fortunately, no one was killed - but four persons were injured in an attack that has shades of a mass shooting. It happened on Faber's Road just before 8:00 where two young men pulled up at a crowded Chinese Store and one of them just opened fire on a group of regular folks just lining up to buy.

Cell phone video captured what happened next - and Courtney Weatherburne has the story:..

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Words of comfort for 3 of the shooting victims that lay crouched and still in the dirt - clutching their fresh wounds.

Voice of: Witness
"I didn't see anything we only hear the gunshots and after that people start run so we run too."

But nothing could mask the panic on Faber's Road as residents tried to rush these men to hospital.

They did manage to get them to the hospital and right now Michael Requena, Emerson Requena, and Sylvester Bahadur are fighting to stay alive in the hospital. Tricia Benguche, also one of the victims has been discharged.

Surveillance footage shows the men standing at the Wing Kee Salon Store.

The man in the white shirt is believed to be Micheal Requena and the man next to him with the school bag is believed to be Emerson Requena. Not too long after, two gunmen strode up and opened fire on them.

It's only in the aftermath footage that Sylvester Bahadur is seen hunched over on the left.

Benguche who was also buying at the store was hit with a stray bullet- she was struck in her hands but she quickly jumped in her car and drove to the hospital.

At this point, police don't know why the men were targeted.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, OC, CIB, Eastern Division
"We still don't have a motive as to why this shooting happened."

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"And you can't say who was the target or if the group of guys were the targets."

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"We are not in a position at this moment to say if there was anybody specifically who was the target as I mentioned it was a group of persons and the person fired directly at the group of persons not only to one person."

Faber's road residents and friends also seem to be clueless as to why anyone would want to harm these men - who they say are just regular guys from the area.

Voice of: Resident
"They are from the neighborhood, to me they don't seem like people that give trouble because they are always with the boys them. You never hear that they are in trouble so it was surprising and shocking to see them lay down on the ground at the Chiney shop, it was just sad to see them mehn."

Police have suspects but have made no arrests.
