Educating About Health
posted (May 3, 2018)
AS you just saw in that extended commercial break, it's Education Month and to kick off the education festivities in Belize City a Community Health Fair was held.

It was about educating the community on health. We stopped by and found out more.

Darlene Lozano, Education Officer
"This is an event organized by the Belize District Education centre. It is the community health fair. We have invited fourteen different organizations. Both government and non-government to promote a healthy lifestyle, to spread an awareness of how to prevent illnesses and also for us to identify some of the symptoms. It is to help us to live a healthier lifestyle."

Sahar Vasquez, reporter
"How important do you think this is for kids this age?"

Darlene Lozano
"It is very important you need to be healthy from birth so we need to start early. We cannot wait until you have a headache or your feeling sick or dizzy to get health education. It is your lifestyle over a period of time that will cause a certain illness. It is not like you get up one day and you get sick. You actually need to live this lifestyle. You need to be physically fit so we got body construction, we have yoga, we have bodybuilding this afternoon, we have high blood pressure testing, we have environmental health, we have school health, we have cancer society, the diabetes association so it shows them because they are the ones that are not only affecting our country but worldwide."

"We have invited schools primary, pre, and secondary to attend. We had a short program this morning starting at ten. Now we have the exhibition going on. We have different times to come so that they can really get the information."

Different events will be held throughout the month to highlight the importance of education.
