He is accused of jacking almost 40 thousand dollars in a daring armed robbery at the UNO gas station in San Ignacio, but 19 year old Marvin Phillips was released on a bail of $5,000 today by new Supreme Court Justice Francis Cumberbatch.

The allegation is that on April 23, Phillips and Asher Saunders - both from Belize City, held up the UNO Service Station in San Ignacio and made off with a total of thirty seven thousand one hundred and forty dollars and forty-eight cents (37,140.48) in cash and cheques.

The police reported that at around 10:00, four men went to the service station. Two of them went inside the convenience store while the others stayed outside. One of the men who went into the store pulled out a firearm and beat the cashier in her head with it. She then handed over $31,000 in cash and the balance in cheques. The men then fled from the scene in a Kia car. Using surveillance footage, police were able to identify two of the robbers - who wore no mask.

As a result, Phillips and Saunders were charged with 3 counts of robbery, 2 counts of aggravated assault and 1 count of grievous harm. They were arraigned on the charges in San Ignacio Magistrate's Court and they were remanded into custody until June 28. Phillips was represented at the bail hearing by attorney Leeroy Banner.
