COLA: “No, No, No to The ICJ”
posted (May 4, 2018)
As we've bene reporting, Belize's referendum on the ICJ is set for next April - and public opinion is split on whether to vote yes or no. But, activist group COLA has launched a campaign for an emphatic "NO" vote. Today, President Geovanni Brackett told us why:

Geovannie Brackett, President - COLA
"We want people to come out in numbers and vote no to the ICJ. We're not calling for a boycott because we don't want what happened in Guatemala with very little participation and then you have a majority of that. We're calling for people to come out and vote no to the ICJ."

"The Friends of Belize are really sponsoring a protest and they've invested tens of millions of dollars in that process. What they say is a peace process which culminates in going to the ICJ. If we vote no, we're going to look like we're obstructionists. Like we don't really want peace, how do you respond to that?"

Geovannie Brackett, President - COLA
"The Guatemalan government doesn't want peace. Our message would be that the 75 percent who did not show up to vote in their referendum is a loud indication that they don't even see it as a pressing issue. Any form of educational process to sway or brainwash the people of Belize into getting a yes vote even to buy votes, I am telling you, leading up to that referendum is we are going to see a heightened form of direct action. The strongest resistance you have ever seen in this country. The past protest that you have seen is nothing compared to what we are willing and prepared to do. We are not going to go to any ICJ because I can tell you I don't know if any..."

The referendum will be held on April 10th, 2019.
