Mental Health Begins in Placencia
posted (May 4, 2018)
This month is being observed worldwide as Mental Health Awareness month and Placencia village is doing its part to bring some much-needed awareness to the often un-diagnosed illness that affects millions. Tomorrow they are kicking off the month with the "Good Minded Festival".

It may sound very "yogi" but in fact, the festival promises to be a day filled with fun and knowledge about the debilitating illness. We spoke to one of the organizers by phone.

Voice of Lyra Vega, Organizer- Good Minded Festival
"What we are having tomorrow is the good-minded festival which is actually the kick-off event for our month of activities focused on getting mentally fit. The month of May in many countries around the world is actually Mental Health awareness month and here in Placencia, a proclamation has been issued to observe mental awareness month. We are organizing activities both in Placencia Village and Seine Bight Village to observe this month of mental health awareness and that starts with the Good Mind Festival which is tomorrow."

"There is that kind of misconception about Mental Health in our country so what we want is for people to understand just like physical health our minds need care and attention to help stay positive and productive. We are challenging people to be part of the Mental challenge. Come out to the Good Mind fair and participate in different activities. We are going to have a mindfulness booth to learn about how to be more aware of your surroundings and feelings. We are going to be doing art therapy, and of the tables will have drawings so that you can relax your mind. We are going to have someone doing reflexology and massages to help with stress-related issues."

The festival starts tomorrow at noon at the Placencia basketball court.
