A New Road To Bridge Two Major Highways
posted (May 7, 2018)
A 34 million Belize dollar contract has been signed for the construction of a major new thoroughfare.

It's the Airport Link Road - which will go from mile eight on the Western Highway over to the Phillip Goldson International.

Another one of those inscrutable Ministry of Works Press releases omits many major details - but we can tell you that the road will be eight kilometers, it will take two years to build and work should start in a month.

It will include a high-level, 268 foot bridge, which will, quote, "intersect at the George Price highway and cross the Belize River to intersect the airport access road near Gentrac Belize Ltd." End quote.

Contractor Francis Woods today told us that several kilometeres of the area are pure swamp of unknown depths - so they will begin digging in next month. It will include two roundabouts and 3-leg roundabouts at the intersection with the airport access road and at the intersection with the George Price Highway.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Works with Funds through a loan from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

The contract was signed today by the Minister of works with the area representative and representative of CISCO.
