Mayor Says “Restructuring” Necessary At City Hall
posted (May 9, 2018)
At the top of the news - you saw our interview with the City Administrator who's been fired, and you heard from the President of the CWU - who says due process was not given to the two union members who were fired from city hall.

Just a few minutes ago, the City Council sent its own statement saying, quote, "...two weeks ago….The Mayor reported on the poor fiscal condition of the council's finances. He articulated clearly, restructuring was an inevitable and necessary component to achieve financial stability and the fulfillment of the council's mandate….After more than two months reviewing of the departmental structures….the council made the decision to part ways with five staff members….responsible and transparent administration of the city will always be at the forefront of all decision making, as we continue with the organizational restructuring." End quote.

Today, the UDP fired off a release saying, quote,

"The United Democratic Party strongly condemns the heartless move by Belize City Mayor Wagner and his Councilors to terminate the employment of several Belize City Council employees without just cause….we are reliably informed there will be more since there is a long list of employees that the PUP Council has targeted for termination…The UDP calls on the Belize City Council to do the right thing and reinstate the individuals fired without just cause and cease and desist with any further unjust terminations..." End quote.
