Rocky Road Residents Rocked by Gun Blasts
posted (May 10, 2018)
Shots were fired in the gang affiliated Rocky Road area of Belize City last night around 11:30. Two gunmen opened fire on one of the apartments in the neighborhood - which is in a cluster of gangs. We spoke to one of the angry residents who was inside his room with his kids at the time of the shooting. He says if police were on duty in the nearby booth, this would not have happened.

Voice of: Victim
"I was inside and they were running in my house for me."

Reporter
"So they were in your house?"

Voice of: Victim
"Yes if I didn't lock my door, I'm not into any problem with any young guy."

Reporter
"So it's one man or two gun men?"

Voice of: Victim
"It was two of them."

Reporter
"They just passed and shot up your house?"

Voice of: Victim
"They shot at the fence, they didn't see anyone. By the time I went in, I locked my door and the shots happened. Looks like they were lay waiting me one time. I was sitting right outside in front of my house where I usually sit down. They were on the lane and they went. Shots were fired an hour and a half after. No police came at all."

Reporter
"There's a police booth right over there and no police were in there throughout the night."

Voice of: Victim
"They have a camera, I asked them to review it to see who run. They haven't seen anything on the camera when it was here all day and on weekends, they can't even sell a bag of weed. As we shoot they come for us fast. The camera is there all day and we can't even sell a bag of weed to make money. Now that shots got fired they can't see who was shooting. We can start a war too just like anyone else. We aren't afraid of anybody. Move the booth and move the camera then we will war if we want because we aren't messing with Chester."

Fortunately no one was hurt -and police have taken steps to try and contain any retaliation.
