Tonight, Demetrio Pott remains in critical condition at the KHMH and today in Corozal town, three men were charged for causing his injuries. Carlos Westby, Deltran Perez, and Leodigario Chan were charged for dangerous harm of Demetrio Pott, while Westby and Chan alone were charged for wounding Pott's brother, Adan.
It happened on April 27th. When the Pott's crashed into a vehicle in Trial Farm and the three men allegedly beat them down. Today outside Corozal Magistrate's Court, their attorney said it's the impact of the accident, not any beating which has Pott on life support in the hospital.

"Obviously all three defendants including my two clients strenuously denied this allegation that they caused any sort of physical injuries or criminal harm upon Demetrio Pott. In fact there is evidence that the injuries which were received by these gentlemen was a consequence of a road traffic accident which took place at that very same time when one of my client's vehicle which was parked alongside the road as he was ordering some food by a nearby food vendor. The vehicle from the virtual complainants came speeding towards them and rammed into the back of their parked vehicle. As a consequence of this, I have been shown photographic evidence and video evidence that indicates from witnesses who were at the scene of the accident that indicates that the passenger in the vehicle that is now critically ill at the hospital at this time, he may have suffered severe injuries as a consequence of the impact itself."

"On what basis did the police proceed with charging?"

"My understanding is that the police have not completed their investigation, they have only done a preliminary investigation and have received reports so far from the virtual complainants themselves and acting just upon that information from them, they have proceeded to lay these charges. Basically in my view they have acted a little bit impatiently in the matter perhaps due to public pressure coming from other sources which led you to conduct your report on last night's news in a very one sided way. The names that have been called out in this matter are names of persons that are in very high standings. Some of them are senior public officers, and they are suffering as a consequence of them being portrayed as being these brutal individuals who put a beat down on two harmless individuals when that was not the case."
Cardona also alleges that the Pott's were inebriated at the time of the accident.
