Murder Victim’s Relative Speaks
posted (May 11, 2018)
Earlier in the news, we told you about 23 year-old Luis Monge, who was stabbed to death at the end of their night of partying at the La Cabana Bar in Belmopan.

He and his 19 year-old friend tried to chase down a chain snatcher. They ended up in a struggle with the assailant, and he was fatally stabbed in the arm.

Now, he has a grieving family, blindsided by his sudden demise.

Our colleagues, Our Colleagues from Plus TV News spoke with his cousin today, and here's what she had to say:

Family member of the deceased
"I saw my mom and grandma crying and I ask them what happened. They said that your cousin is dead. I told them no, they said yes, they killed him. I ask who did it and they say they don't know. They said that he went out with the owner of La Cabana and another guy and the officers - they were chasing the man that stole a chain from a lady. The lady say they stole it. So now they went, but we never knew that he was going to die in that incident."

Reporter
"I could imagine that this is a hard time for you and the family. Tell me a little bit about what the family is feeling right now."

Family member of the deceased
"The family is very sad because he (cousin) was a nice person. He would never get in trouble. He works all the time and he came home at least 4-5 days for the week - come and visit us. Sometimes he had fun, he ran jokes with us. All the time he was eating here. He was like friendly to us and I can't believe that he is dead. Monday was the last time I saw him. Today, Friday, they gave me the bad news that my cousin is already gone. I can't believe it yet. Why did they do this to him? I can't understand why people do this."

His cousin told PLUS that the manner in which he tried to come to this woman's aid is characteristic of his personality.
