SSB Demands Payment From Citco
posted (May 15, 2018)
Weeks ago, the new Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner reported that his predecessor hadn't been remitting Social Security payments to the SSB since August of 2017, right up to the election.

Former mayor Darrell Bradley flatly denied it - as did his now terminated city administrator, Candice Miller. Here's how she responded to the allegation last week:

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"The suggestion is that, which is illegal, that the council withheld the taxes and social security from August 2017 and didn't pass it on to central government and social security."

Candice Miller, Former City Admin.
"When I was there we paid social security, we paid taxes."

Well, as proof of its claim, the PUP City Council today circulated a demand letter from the Social Security Board. It is demanding 77 thousand dollars for the period November, 2017. The letter is dated today and demands payment within five days. If not, court proceedings will be launched against the council. We have confirmed that the letter is genuine.

No word from City Hall on whether it will be able to come up with the funds.
