Is BDF Befriending Guatemala’s Ally?
posted (May 15, 2018)
So with all this chuminess between Israel and Guatemala - what's a BDF Captain doing in Mexico - along with the police and Coast Guard at a cyber security conference? That's what we asked the BDF commander today:..

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"The President of Guatemala is in Israel today for the opening of their embassy. The Guatemalans are big supporter of Israel, but I saw that a BDF Captain Usher, was in Mexico recently at an Israeli cyber security conference. Is that something that the BDF is looking at knowing that the Israeli and the Guatemalans are very close allies?"

General Steven Ortega, Commander - BDF
"Partnering with different countries actually helps us in terms of getting the necessary resources and capabilities in our country for us to continue what we do and so it is very reasonable for her to go there and visit this expo and see what they have to offer and to bring back recommendations here for us and from there we will see what best suites our purposes."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"So, the friendship that Guatemala and Israel share which is a very deep and long abiding friendship is not a deterrent for you all so to speak?"

General Steven Ortega, Commander - BDF
"No, it's not a deterrent I am quite sure that Israel is just as friendly with Belize. I'm not sure of the diplomatic line that we have but I'm quite sure, they are so I don't see that as being a decision maker or a deal breaker for any country."

Captain Usher was accompanied by senior police and Coast Guard officers.
