Four Homes Burn In Belmopan, Human Remains Founds
posted (May 16, 2018)
We'll have much more from the Prime Minister's 90 minute press conference later on in the news, but, first, there's the report of another outlandish crime from the capital.

4 homes were set on fire on the outskirts of Belmopan yesterday at midday. Someone was killed in the blaze but police have not identified the body…or we should say what's left of the body. The 4 homes were in a yard on Jordan Ranch road. That's the area on the old Banana Bank Road opposite the airstrip at the entrance of Belmopan. There are still a lot of questions at this time and Courtney Weatherburne went to look for some answers today. Here's her story.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Sheets of singed zinc were scattered all over the yard,

And what was left of the wooden steps, a microwave and the kitchen sink - among the blackened debris, these are the only signs of what were once homes. The fire started yesterday around midday and gutted the four wooden structures. Residents say all they saw was smoke rising from the bushes.

Victor Barrientos, Resident
"We saw the smoke, we thought they were burning tires, it looked dark."

"When the boss came to look for us he gave us this response "they burnt the house there along the road he told us. I asked what happened, he said I don't know."

And no one knew the gravity of the situation until the fire department did an on-site inspection and found human remains.

Benisford Matura, Assistant Fire Chief
"The unit from Belmopan city went to the area, upon arrival it turned out to be a structural fire and it was on Jordan Ranch road- which is a road off the old Banana Bank road."

"While doing our mopping up and hitting the small spot fires, the fire fighters discovered human remains in one of the biggest structures, the police was immediately contacted because of the severity of this fire or the discovery of the human remains."

Bruce Davidson owned the property but at this point police have NOT confirmed if the remains belong to Davidson who is believed to be a British National. But what authorities can confirm is that this was arson.

Benisford Matura, Assistant Fire Chief
"We found out that the structures themselves, the 4 structures that burnt, all burnt at the one specific meaning that they were all lit at the same time so we class this fire as an incendiary fire."

So for now, police will try to tie up all the loose ends in this arson with the hope that all clues weren't lost in the fire.

There is a "Beware of the Dogs" sign at the gate but there were no dogs. Neighbors say that the owner, Davidson had a vehicle, which was also not in the yard. As we said, police have not confirmed the identity of the remains.
