This afternoon, the Guatemalan army and police were on the Belize side of the Benque border reviewing the work done by the BDF Light Engineering Company. As we showed you on Monday, they’re installing fences and gates to ensure better crowd control at that official border crossing.
So what authority do the Guatemalans have to review their work? Well, they made the request through the OAS to come and see what’s happening so that they can properly advise Guatemalans coming across. The OAS set up meetings with Belizean officials and the Guatemalans. The BDF engineer in charge briefed them - and the visit went smoothly, we are told - even if it did raise some eyebrows.
