Police May Have To Rethink Manslaughter Charge
posted (May 17, 2018)

And keeping it in Trial Farm - police today discussed the accident involving Demetrio Pott that happened there three weeks ago.

The 47 year-old Caledonia Villager died earlier this week. Initially, police believed that he died from an alleged beatdown he received from men whose vehicle his brother crashed into. But now, the cops aren’t so sure.

A post mortem indicates that he died from “whiplash syndrome”, and the cops told us today that they will be seeking the advice of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on how they should proceed.

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"The post mortem reports for that is saying that he died from whiplash syndrome."

Daniel Ortiz
"What does that mean sir?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"We did not exactly get an explanation from the doctor - or a clarification from the doctor so what we are doing is we're submitting the post mortem results to the office of director of public prosecution in order for her to make a determination."

Reporter
"These 3 persons were initially charged I believe for wounding and dangerous harm. I believe one day later that charge was upgraded to manslaughter. Given the results of the post mortem it would indicate that the beat down did not cause the death or Mr. Demitrio Pott so is that charge going to be rescinded? What happens now?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"It is not for the police to determine whether or not the charges will be rescinded; hence the reason I have said that the post mortem results will be submitted to the office of the director of public prosecution in order for them to make a determination."

At this time, Carlos Westby, Deltran Perez, and Leodigario Chan are facing a manslaughter charge for causing Pott’s death by beating.

Their families of the accused men strongly dispute that allegation as false.
