Senator Valerie Woods made it official today: she will contest the PUP convention in the Albert Division and challenge her Senate colleague, care-taker Paul Thompson.
Woods went to the PUP headquarters at 3:00 this evening - one hour before the deadline - to submit her name and the required paperwork. In so doing she has ended two weeks of intense speculation, which has spawned a fair amount of inter-party tension and social media chatter. She told Daniel Ortiz why she's doing it:..

"What is your final decision at this time?"

"I'll be contesting the Albert's Division for sure."

"What was the general message from the sampling that you did over this week for the support?"
Valerie Woods
"They want a change. They are not satisfied with the attention or lack there of, that's been given to them in the Alberts. They like my message, they like my approach that I am bringing and they love the fact that a woman is standing up. So I feel very encouraged. It's a big step for me. But I am very humbled by the overwhelming support and its now hitting the streets and getting to June 17th."

"Have you even before this put yourself for a possible candidacy?"

"No, this is very new to me."
