Cabbie Killed By Mystery Caller
posted (May 22, 2018)
Earlier in the news, we told you about 2 of the weekend murders in the Belize City, and another in San Ignacio, but before the long weekend was over, another killing was reported.

This one happened last night at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway - and again the victim was a taxi-man, one of the most high risk occupations in the country.

It's an all - too - familiar story, Belize City cabbie Luis Moh was killed by gunmen who pretended to be legitimate customers. Daniel Ortiz has his story:

Felipe Moh - Father of the Deceased
"He works hard for a little bit of money. I don't know what will happen, but why those guys that are doing this targets poor people, people that are working hard. What would the ministers do if this happens to one of their sons or daughters?"

Daniel Ortiz reporting
Felipe Moh was simply voicing his frustration and simmering rage that his son, 31 year-old Luis Carlos Moh, was murdered last night by gunmen pretending to be customers.

Moh, a taxi driver, was with his 17 year-old girlfriend, when he got a phone call from a man hiring him to do a taxi run to the mile 8 community on the George Price Highway. Little did he know that this call would lead to his murder.

According to police, he picked up this person at the Lion King Bar on King Street.

ASP Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"What police have so far gather is that Mr. Moh was called to do a taxi run to 8 miles and along with his was his girlfriend at the time, where they picked up a male person on Vernon Street and thereafter they drove to 8 miles and whilst on the way they picked up another male person and whilst driving, they were ordered to go into Homeland Memorial Park where upon arrival at that location the female observed the male person with a firearm and she managed to jump out of the vehicle and thereafter she heard the shots in the area."

Moh's girlfriend escaped from the vehicle unharmed, and reports are that she ran here to the Prosser Fertilizer compound, where a security guard helped her to call the police. When they arrived they found his abandoned Taxi, this Toyota Camry, and Moh's body inside.

ASP Alejandro Cowo
"Police visited that area and they found an abandoned white Toyota Camry on the street side and also, making further checks in the bushes, led to the discovery of a make person with a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest and to his back. He was identified as Luis Carlos Moh, a Belizean of King's Park area. What is missing from him is a cell phone and other personal belongings. It is something that we are trying to establish a motive. At this moment we are considering a possible robbery, because of his items that are missing. There is nothing else to indicate to us that he was involved in any kind of illegal activities."

Moh's life was ended senselessly by a gunman, most likely a robbery attempt, and his father wants the justice system to get tough on his killer

Felipe Moh - Father of the Deceased
"Most of the times it happens that they catch the guy and next day they are out doing the same thing and this shouldn't happen. The government has to start to do something. They have to start to hang those guys."

Felipe Moh tells us that yesterday his deceased son, Luis, had talked with him about the early Sunday morning murder of Juan Angel Vargas. They discussed how this hard-working food vendor, who was Luis's friend, was shot and killed by robbers. Hours later, Luis Moh was shot and killed - just like his friend - in what police believe to be another robbery turned murder.

We are told that a high profile gang figure has been detained as a person of interest in this murder.
