posted (May 22, 2018)
So far tonight you've heard about all the bad news police have to investigated, but there are also great community initiatives. On Sunday the Eastern Division Southside Commander, Sr. Superintendent Howell Gillett and staff took 30 young people between 8 and 15 from neighborhoods all across the city for a special adventure above the forest canopy. They went to Franks Eddy Village to do zip lining - just like the tourists.

Police say they hope to, quote, "keep young people positive by taking them out of their usual environment to experience other possibilities. This…will help these young people by opening their minds to a life other than the status quo." End quote.

Hon. Boots Says UDP Wants Gilroy

Earlier we told you about the upcoming Albert convention which is contested.

But, over the weekend, an uncontested convention, known as an endorsement, was held in Port Loyola for Gilroy Usher - who's been in there since 2012.

His opponent says he wants Usher to stay right there:..

Reporter "Would you have prefer to see a convention?"

Hon. Anthony Martinez
"Put it this way, I wanted Mr. Usher. We need Mr. Usher, because he can't win. He didn't come close. The man says you don't mess with anything that doesn't need fix. Mr. Usher got beaten 2 times, so why should I happy for anybody come? Anybody else comes maybe the result could be different. I am happy. I was an advocate and I was the type of person who were saying to people that they were chancing Mr. Usher. We need him, because it's him we can beat."

And so while Usher is set for the PUP in Port, who will run for the UDP? Boots Martinez is stepping down - but there are many names rumoured for his replacement, from Dean Samuels to Phillip Willoughby, to now, Mike Peyrefitte. We asked him about that:..

Reporter
"Who will replace you in Port Loyola, is that clear yet? I know the people will decide, but you must choose to."

Hon. Anthony Martinez
"The convention will be between November and January. Of course the deadline for application is the 29th June of which all interested parties will need to submit their names. I need to see the lineup. But of presently I have my own choice."

Reporter
"And your choice is?"

Hon. Anthony Martinez
"I won't disclosed that at this point in time."

Reporter
"Is Mike Peyrefitte a prospect, the Attorney General?"

Hon. Anthony Martinez
"I am not saying anything sir."
