George Street Figure Charged For Killing Cabbie
posted (May 23, 2018)

Last night, we gave you extensive coverage of all the murders that happened over the holiday weekend. Well, the cops say that they have solved one of them, and the suspect is on remand tonight.

He is Nicoli Rhys, a known George Street figure, and he has been charged with the murder of 31 year-old Luis Carlos Moh, the taxi man who was lured to his death near to the mile 8 community on the George Price Highway.

Just before noon today, Rhys was rushed over to the Belize City Magistrate's Court, and arraigned before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer. He was read a single charge of murder, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July 27

As we reported, on Monday night at around 10:00, Moh and his 17 year-old common-law wife were inside his Toyota Camry taxi, when he received a phone call to take a man to the mile 8 community. He picked this supposed costumer, who then urged him to pick up another man. Just a short distance away from the Mile 8 community, one of the men reportedly pulled out a gun and ordered him to drive unto the Homeland Memorial road.

Moh's girlfriend escaped, but she heard in the distance when they shot and killed him. She ran to the Prosser Fertilizer compound, where a security guard helped her to call police. When the cops arrived, they found Moh's lifeless body; he had been shot to the right side of the chest, and the back.

Some of his personal belongings were missing, which led investigators to suspect that Moh was murdered in a robbery attempt. But, we note that there are credible reports which say that Moh was targeted because he was the preferred taximan for one gang - and that's why he was targeted by a rival gang.
