Senator Paul Thompson Cites Price and Hyde
posted (May 23, 2018)

Last night on the news, you heard PUP Albert aspirant Senator Paul Thompson’s strong talk for his opponent, fellow Senator Valerie Woods.

And while they are the two candidates, there’s another name that we’ve been hearing in political circles, and that’s Mark Espat, the former three term PUP Representative.  Back in 2003, he won by the largest margin of victory in the modern era in any division, and Paul Thompson was a main cog in his political machine.

Espat has retired from electoral politics and is now Prime Minister Dean Barrow’s Economic Ambassador. But the question now is whether Espat has a favoured horse in this convention race. That’s what we asked Thompson:

Jules Vasquez
“It seems that the spectral presence of Mark Espat hangs over the race and the division. How do you respond to that?”

Hon. Paul Thompson- PUP Caretaker, Albert
“Well, Mark Espat and I go way back and as I said I was here in 1995 when he was running and contesting the convention. We won many municipal elections together. I am about winning. I want to win and so my history is right there. Those are the facts.”

Jules Vasquez
“We know that in politics it is about relationships and that entire thing about going-back but it is also about money.”

Hon. Paul Thompson
“I agree; I will definitely have some support. I have a lot of business people who are in my corner as well but that relationship that you spoke about, that means everything to people you know. We were here between 1998 and 2008. I am tried and tested in this area. When that opportunity was there, I helped people and I think that politics is a platform or a vehicle where you can help people get out of poverty. You know what, I am a disciple of George Price and an ally of Cordel Hyde, that is what I believe in.”

The convention will be held on June 17th, not 19th. as we reported last night.
