Father Says Son Lured To Death In the North
posted (May 24, 2018)
Last night on the news we told you about four traumatic deaths - 3 of them conclusively murders, and one a possible murder.

Tonight - we have more on the two murder reports which came into our newsroom late in the evening.

First, 22 year old Jose Zelaya Jr.'s body was found in a state of advanced decomposition yesterday evening about 1/4 mile Northwest of the Calcutta/Xaibe road. The Lake Independence resident had gone up north to visit relatives, but death was waiting for him.

He was cruelly killed and then dumped on a remote cane road. The body had to be guarded throughout the night and an on-site post mortem was conducted this morning.

While his father was waiting for this to finish so he could quickly bury his son, Jose Zelaya Sr told CTV-3 News that Jose Jr was lured to his death in Corozal. First he discussed where the body had been found:..

Jose Zeyala Sr., Found Son's Body
"Well some of my close family and friends from Calcutta came here to burn cane to cut and while they were going through the feeder road, they found my son."

Reporter
"Have you heard about any injuries on him?"

Jose Zeyala Sr., Found Son's Body
"For sure I know that my son was tortured, because when I came yesterday and I saw the body, I know my son had a bad ordeal."

Reporter
"Are you able to say what type of injuries?"

Jose Zeyala Sr., Found Son's Body
"I know for sure he had a slash under his throat. I am not quite sure if it is a bullet wound on the top of his head that came through the left side of his eye - but I am sure that his throat was cut from ear to ear and a large chop on his feet."

Reporter
"You have any idea why something like this would happen to him?"

Jose Zeyala Sr., Found Son's Body
"My son got lured by a woman to come to Corozal. I have to be honest to the media, myself and to everybody. My son was lured by a young lady to come to Corozal. I know for a fact that it had to do with something that happened with one of my sons. This was a planned hit on my son. My son death was planned, not intended for him apparently. If you can't catch Harry, you catch his shirt."

"I want to remember the good times and not the bad times, because these last months my son Jose Antonio Zeyala Jr., AKA Musket - he enjoyed his life. It hurts me, but I have to live with it. I want to thank God, because he had given the opportunity that a lot of family doesn't have - to find their loved ones and give them a decent burial."

The body was quickly buried in Corozal after the post mortem.

Zelaya Sr. has known loss to a murder before; his brother was killed in 2002.
