Businessman’s Killer Charged
posted (May 25, 2018)
70 year old businessman Oscar Rosado was killed in his hardware store by a robber one month ago. The case faded from the headlines, but police did not give up on finding their suspect. Today they charged 18 year old Brandon Hughes for the crime.

The Aloe Vera Street resident appeared today before Chief Magistrate, Sharon Fraser this morning. He was remanded into custody until July 25. He'll likely spend at least a year on remand before he goes to trial. On the day of the murder, Oscar Rosado's outspoken wife Elena told the media what she would do if she got her hands on the man who killed her husband:...

Elena Rosado, Wife/Witness
"If I would get my hands on this guy, I wouldn't shoot him, because I know who it is. But when I hold him, I would be sorry for him. Because when I am finish with him, he wouldn't be able to shoot anyone else, because I will break his 2 hands and his 2 feet. I think it's the system that has to get to these men, because they hold them and then they go and they come out back free. They come out again to kill someone else, and someone innocent."

An innocent man, who was tending his business on the afternoon of Monday, April 23rd - when a trio of would-be customers walked into Rosado's Construction Supplies near the Lord Ridge Cemetery and asked for a pound of nails. A short time later, one of the men brought back the nails saying it wasn't the right type. Elena Rosado sensed something was amiss, and on the day of the murder, she told us what happened:

Elena Rosado, Wife/Witness
"The young man come and he held me pointing the gun at me and my husband was at the door and so my husband told him "left she alone" and he told my husband to shut the "F" off. He told my husband to give him the gun and so my husband told him "What's wrong with you." My husband with his two hands hold the guy and pushed him and he fell on top of the Coke crates and that's when he fired the shot and my husband fell to the side, because the bullet went through his forehead. So now when I saw my husband fell, I say that he is dead because I saw blood on his face and the gunman bent down and search my husband. He didn't take my husband gun. The only thing he took was his wallet."

The killer made off with one thousand dollars which Rosado had in his wallet.
