Knocked Down And Left For Dead
posted (May 28, 2018)
A man was run over and killed on the Maskall road over the weekend. 42 year old Jermaine Rhaburn was heading home early Sunday morning around 5:00 when he was knocked down. He was left in the middle of the road bleeding out. Police don't have much information in this case neither does his family. Courtney Weatherburne has the story.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Jermaine Rhaburn had been renting this Boston Village house for 2 years. But living next to his landlord, Brunelda Alvarado, was what made this place a home for Rhaburn. They shared a special bond.

Courtney Weatherburne, reporter
"So you two were very close?"

Brunelda Alvarado, Landlord
"Very close, he was like my son that I don't have, that is why it hurt me so much because he was."

He was everything to her, now there is nothing but emptiness on Alvarado's farmhouse.

The last time Alvarado saw Rhaburn was on Saturday afternoon, she had invited him to a boxing match at the Civic.

Brunelda Alvarado, Landlord
"I usually don't ask men to go with me nowhere but I love to boxing I said lets go with me no boy, I will pay for you, let's go with me he say when you take people you have to...I tell him I have my change because from last month I wanted to go anyway he say, no worry aunty sometimes he call me grandma, whatever, he say I will call you and come back."

But Rhaburn never returned. He was knocked down early Sunday morning between miles 1 and 2 on the Maskall road. Information is that he was heading home after hanging out with his brother and friends at a village celebration. But someone ran him over and left him on the road in a bad way. He was rushed over to the hospital but about an hour after, Rhaburn died.

Brunelda Alvarado, Landlord
"All I did was go into the hospital and gave him a hug and tell him goodbye and he did die."

Now all that is left to do is remember and celebrate Rhaburn as the helpful and self-less man he was.

Brunelda Alvarado, Landlord
"He would let out my foul for me, and help me the last thing he did for me was bring me my two bucket of water in my kitchen."

Courtney Weatherburne
"So he really helped you out around the place and took care of you."

Brunelda Alvarado, Landlord
"And he was my body guard, he let people know plain and straight this lady is like my mom, my gramdma. He say no mess with her because no one comes between me, my mom and this lady."

"According to his parents, his mom and his sister, he was the best around the house, he was willing to do anything and never said I am not doing it, he was very helpful."

Rhaburn leaves behind 3 kids.

And there was another traffic fatality this weekend. This one happened after 5:00 on Sunday morning on the George Price Highway near Log Cabin Resort - which is on the Benque Road. 47 year old Carlos Panti was driving from Benque Viejo Town to San Ignacio Town in his Isuzu Trooper when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. He was flung from the vehicle. Panti died on the spot from his injuries.

He was a well-known tour guide, who used the moniker "Carlos the Caveman."
