No Confidence Vote Tabled At PSU
posted (May 28, 2018)
Last year, the Public Service Union was plunged into turmoil when the past President, Eldred Neal, was put on blast for a secret recording of him was released publicly in which he made prejudiced remarks about the Garifuna Members of the Public Service Union.

The New president, Doreth Obermayer Cayetano, was elected after Neal's exit, and her leadership was to supposed to help the healing process within the Union, after that messy internal dispute. Well tonight, the sitting president is now caught up in turmoil of her own, after a no-confidence vote was tabled as a resolution during the Union's AGM on Saturday.

Sources tell us that at the AGM, the general membership managed to get through quite a bit of backlog in their organizations' housekeeping. Elections were held for the open posts on the executive, which included the 1st Vice President, the Assistant Secretary General, and the Treasurer. It was seen as a even distribution of the Union's powers to the different branches of the PSU.

Things heated up significantly during the portion of the AGM when the Union's Resolution Committee was called upon to table all resolutions from the PSU general membership. There were a number of outstanding resolutions that they had to vote on, but the most controversial was a vote of no-confidence against President Cayetano.

That was dealt with last, and in this resolution, the general membership was being asked to declare this "no confidence" vote, and to ask for her immediate resignation, as well as the resignations of the Secretary General, and the 2nd Vice President.

We're told that the Resolutions Committee Chair, Jacqueline Willoughby, did as she was supposed to do, but it immediately caused uproar. President Cayetano's supporters immediately interpreted it as a personal creation of Willoughby herself, but we're told that this no-confidence resolution was actually brought by other PSU members.

They were instructed that as with an other resolutions, they have the ability to swing the democracy of the general membership to vote it down. Instead of having the resolution debated and then voted upon, the membership decided to defer it until next year.
