Fonso Will Stand Trial in Supreme Court
posted (May 29, 2018)
Alfonso Noble, the Editor of the Guardian Newspaper, and one of the UDP mouthpieces on WAVE RADIO AND TV, will stand trial for the accident in which he knocked down and killed Gilbert Myers.

On Christmas Eve of 2016, Noble was passing an area between miles 3 and 4 on the George Price Highway when he hit Myers, a Hattieville Resident who was riding his bicycle on his way home.

Noble was charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, and failing to provide specimen to police for testing.

You'll remember that in November of last year, Noble reached an amicable settlement with Myers' family, in which they were reportedly paid in the vicinity of over a hundred thousand dollars.

That ended a civil suit that the family brought against him, and the hope was that his attorney, Herbert Panton, would be able to use this settlement to get the criminal charges against him dropped.

Well, that's not going to happen, and at a preliminary inquiry today, the prosecution produced all the evidence against him.

His attorney submitted to the court that the prosecution is relying on the allegation that Noble was speeding, and that there is no evidence of that coming from the 2 eyewitnesses.

After consideration, Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford did not agree, saying that the sketch plan of the scene of the fatal accident indicates that Myers was riding on the shoulder of the road, and not in the road itself. She also said that the evidence suggests that speeding was involved.

With that, she committed Noble to stand trial in the October session of the Supreme Court.
