Last night, we told you how police made a rapid arrest for Tuesday's murder of 30 year-old Erbin Garrido. Well, 37 year-old Anthony Bennett, the man who police believe was the killer, is at the Belize Central Prison tonight.
Bennett, an AC Technician from Mahogany Street who also uses the name "Velasquez", was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford this morning on the single charge of murder. Because this is a capital offense, he was remanded to prison, until his next court date on August 17th.
Police say that on Tuesday night at around 8:00, Bennett went to Garrido's home in the CET Site area, off Holy Emmanuel Street. It is unclear if he approached Garrido's front door, or if he fired from outside, but Garrido was shot in the chest as he sat in his living room.
Police say that the two may have had a prior dispute days ago which ended with Garrido stabbing Bennett. They believe that instead of reporting the incident to police for official investigation, Bennett went back gunned down Garrido.
Information from court sources suggests that Bennett was allegedly identified as the shooter by a witness who reportedly told the cops that he knew Bennett for about 5 years.
