Tension Thick At Cayo Police Situation
posted (June 1, 2018)
Tension remains high at the San Ignacio police station after one officer pulled a gun on another 8 days ago.

It happened last Thursday evening, right in front of the station - in plain view of other officers - and on the station's security camera. 7News has obtained the copy of a corroborating statement from one of those officers. He said he saw the two constables having hard talk and stepped in between them to defuse it. That's when he says PC 1994 pulled his 9 millimeter pistol and cranked it. He says he then, quote, "drifted away" to avoid being shot. He said the PC then pointed the gun at the other officer who turned and walked away.

The officer who was targeted has requested court action - meaning he wants his constable colleague criminally charged. 7news has credible information which says that the Police senior command requested the file be sent to headquarters, and had hoped to try and sweep it under the rug with merely a disciplinary charge.

Under the orchestration of headquarters in Belmopan, PC Benjamin has returned to work - and he and the other officer continue to work in the same community policing unit. It's a situation that one observer in the station has called a ticking time bomb. The dispute was over a situation with PC 1994's girlfriend, a Woman constable, who also works in that unit.
