NBSAP: It stands for the National Biodiversity Strategy Action Plan. It was launched yesterday at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio. The plan is pretty much self-explanatory. The focus is ensuring that Belize's natural resources and all the diverse species and ecosystems are protected and safeguarded. Here is more from the event.

"Biodiversity is the sum of all life on earth. That's from bacteria to blue whales. From the fungus to the redwood tree in California. Millions of species of plants and animals are what we referred to as biodiversity of the earth. One startling fact is that never before in the history of earth has one out of millions of species had such dominion over all others. Human-kind have over 8 billion presently on earth, has now spun the earth into what we called the Anthropocene, which is an era of unpresented biodiversity loss; pollution, land cover change, over exploitation of natural resources and climate change."

Our commitment to develop and implement the NBSAP sends a clear signal of the importance our government places on our natural capital. The NBSAP is the result of years of work and was prepared through many consultations with all our partners. It highlights Belize's vision, goals and targets for the biodiversity we are blessed with."
A copy of the plan was given to a number of stakeholders.
