Cops Say They Had To Shoot Child To Put Down Gun
posted (June 4, 2018)
So, as you've heard, the father of the 13 year-old is livid. He doesn't believe the police's explanation about why his son was shot, and why he's now facing firearms charges.

But, police are sticking to their version of events. At today's press conference, Inspector Ferrufino detailed what the GSU officers have reported to their commander about this incident.

Here's what he had to say:

Wilfredo Ferrufino - Inspector, CIB
"On the 2nd of June, sometime around 4:40 p.m., a team of members of the Gang Suppression Unit received information that there was a male individual in possession of a firearm on Antelope Street. As a result, the team visited the location, or made their way to the location, and on arrival, they observed a male individual fitting the description. Upon seeing the police, he proceeded to elude the police, and he rode down on Seagull Street, and went contrary to traffic on Raccoon Street. Upon police encountering him, in front of #22 Raccoon Street, he turned to the police and pointed what - he pointed a firearm in their direction. As a result, one of the officers fired at him, and hit him on his legs. He was transported to the hospital by those officers, and he is listed as stable at the hospital. As soon as he is discharged, he will be charged formally with possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and aggravated assault. The firearm was retrieved from beside him after he was injured by the police."

"Do police have any reasons to suspect that the 13 year-old intended to use it in anyway, any attacks, or any attempts at any kind of criminal activity?"

Wilfredo Ferrufino
"Well, we don't have anything to confirm that, however, the firearm is unlicensed, so."

Police re-iterated that the boy will be facing charges as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
